Here you are ready to make another important business decision; your logo design. You don’t want to take this lightly, as your logo is what will be infused into your marketing and branding (more on that below). So how do you go about picking the right logo designer?
The following checklist will help you find the right fit for your needs:
1. Experience
How long has this person been doing designing professionally, and how is their skill level reflected in their work? It’s not to say that they have to have a minimum of 20 years’ experience, but it’s a big consideration, which leads me to #2.
2. Portfolio
This designer should have a strong and diverse portfolio to show you, that you can ask questions about. The designer should be well able to explain their design process as well, which will give you a feel for how well they know their craft and how much attention to detail, do they seem to have. If they can produce a logo within a day or 2, you should run, because that would be an indicator that not enough thought went into the business behind the logo.
3. Favorable reviews
- How many of their clients were happy with not only their work but their work ethic as well.
- Were they reachable in a timely fashion during the duration of your project?
- Have they produced what was asked/ promised by them?
- Who wrote the review? Can you verify that it is a REAL review? Be sure to do your due diligence and check out the review companies to see if they (“Designer”) exist
4. Awards
Have they won any awards for their work? Have they been published anywhere? Books, magazines?
5. Questions and Answers
Pay attention to what questions and how many questions the designer is asking you. How invested are they in really understanding the message your business or product is trying to convey? The more they question as well as listen to you/ your answers, the more likely they are to get it right when they design your logo.
